Although Jesus had told his disciples and friends in different ways that he would die and then be resurrected, they did not understand, for they expected him to become the ruler of the Jews at that time. They did not yet understand God's plan, nor the fact that Jesus had come to earth for this very purpose: to buy back the perfect life Adam lost through disobedience. Matthew 17:23
