The Bible is the written word of the Lord. To learn to love the Bible one must first learn about its author, who is God, and come to appreciate His character. The Bible is the way He has chosen to reveal himself to mankind.
The perfect attributes of our Creator are shown through the scriptures and the natural world. “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” (Genesis 1:1) We see the beauties of nature and the wonders in the celestial universe. The Psalmist extols in Psalm 19:1, “The heavens declare the glory of God…”
God’s wisdom and power are clearly displayed in the Genesis account of creation. God worked for 6 periods (creative days – not 24 hour days) to prepare the earth for life, and for the creation of the man who was made in God’s image. Perfect human life for Adam was assured as long as he obeyed his creator. However, when he sinned, he plunged all his descendants into the just penalty of which he was forewarned, “dying thou shalt die.” (Genesis 2:21)
God’s justice is absolute, yet love and mercy have been revealed in the compassionate heart of our heavenly Father. 1 John 4:8-10 (NKJV), “He who does not love does not know God, for God is love. In this the love of God was manifested toward us, . . . not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation (or atonement) for our sins.”
The Lord foreknew that man, due to his inexperience, would fail the original test of obedience. When Adam and Eve were tempted by the devil, He provided a way to release Adam from the curse of death. 1 Corinthians 15:22: “As in Adam all die, so in Christ (Jesus) shall all be made alive.” 1 Peter 1:18-21: “knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things,. . . but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot. He indeed was foreordained before the foundation of the world. . .”
God’s wonderful plan includes all who will desire to be reconciled to Him through his Son, Jesus. Presently, some are called to a heavenly reward. But in the future resurrection, the rest of mankind will have the opportunity to regain perfection of life lost in father Adam.
Revelation 22:17: “whosoever will let him take of the water of life freely,” and chapter 21:4: “and he shall wipe away every tear from their eyes and death shall be no more; neither shall there be mourning nor crying, nor pain any more; the first things are passed away.”
We have learned to love the Bible because we have come to know God. God is always loving, wise, just, and powerful. We love the Bible because it reveals His wonderful plan of redemption for all.
