When we pray we do not use a formula for any particular needs, but rather we pour out our hearts to God. We tell Him what our hearts’ desires are.
In this situation, we might pray that the grieving ones may know and feel the comfort of God’s love. “And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love…” 1 John 4:16 (NKJV)
How might they receive God’s love? You could turn to God and pray your loved ones may believe God’s promises. Psalm 91:1-2,4,15 (NKJV), 1 “He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. 2 I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust.” … 4 He shall cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth (that they will be reunited with their loved one in the resurrection) shall be your shield … 15 He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble (distress)…”
Additionally, you could write down these beautiful scriptures in a note. Then they might be able to pray these words themselves.
Another way to pray is by inserting their names in a scriptural promise. Psalm 89:24 (NKJV), 24 “My faithfulness and My mercy shall be with him (your loved ones’ names)…”
Isaiah 43:2 (NKJV), “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you (your grieving friends); And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you.” Pray that God’s love will keep your friends so that they shall not drown or be overcome in grief.
Finally, ask God to show you ways that you might personally minister to their needs through their loss. Many times, God uses people to pour out His comfort.
Remember, the Apostle Paul wrote, “He Himself has said, I will never leave you or abandon you.” Hebrews 13:5 (CSB) Pray and tell your friends about God’s promises.
