If you want to be pleasing to God, man should always live according to the Bible. Some may think this is restrictive, but it is actually quite freeing. Let’s use the workplace as an example.
There are some companies where employees are empowered at their workplace. Employees, who do not understand what empowerment means, may think this term allows them to do whatever they want. Others may constantly ask if they are allowed to this or that – waiting for someone to tell them what they are empowered to do. Neither behavior illustrates an accurate understanding of the concept.
Employees who do understand empowerment will first learn and understand the business strategy. Then they will be free to do whatever they like to forward that business strategy. Likewise with God, we must first learn his plan (like a business strategy) and then we are free to do anything we like which will forward his plan.
And what is God’s strategy for how to live? Those that do not understand the empowerment of living according to the Bible will look at the “thou shalt" and "thou shalt not" rules and find themselves restricted. Those who do understand the empowerment of life according to the Bible are guided only by the great commandment, and find they are set free.
Matthew 22: “Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.”
