Neither God nor His words in the Bible are ever contradictory. In fact, Romans 3:3-4 asks “What if some did not have faith? Will their lack of faith nullify God’s faithfulness? Not at all! Let God be true…” (NIV)
The abandonment of Jesus on the cross by His Father, Jehovah, was not connected with a lack of Jesus’ faithfulness or of a breaking of the divine promise of care. It had a much deeper meaning. “But we see Jesus …for the suffering of death…that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man.” Hebrews 2: 9 This verse states that the Jesus tasted death for everyone. Part of Jesus’ sacrifice as a ransom for Adam included the loss of fellowship with God. Mankind are sinners, and they have no direct contact, faith or trust in God. When the Father turned away from Jesus on the cross, Jesus experienced that grievous separation. At that moment, Jesus felt how the sinner feels: utterly alone with no hope.
