Absolutely! All the righteous from Abel through the Apostles were grateful for God being the God that He is.

The Scriptures abound with descriptions of the greatness of God’s character. Whenever anyone acknowledges the characteristic attributes of our Lord Jehovah, we are praising and thanking Him for being Who He is!

The Psalms are a litany of gratitude to God for being God. Consider Psalm 18:3, 25-28 (NKJV), “I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised… With the merciful You will show Yourself merciful; With a blameless man You will show Yourself blameless; With the pure You will show Yourself pure; And with the devious You will show Yourself shrewd. For You will save the humble people, But will bring down haughty looks. For You will light my lamp; The LORD my God will enlighten my darkness.” David truly demonstrated gratitude to God for being Himself.

Moses sang, “For I proclaim the name of the LORD: Ascribe greatness to our God. He is the Rock, His work is perfect; For all His ways are justice, A God of truth and without injustice; Righteous and upright is He,” Deuteronomy 32:3,4(NKJV).

1 Samuel 2:1,2, “Then Hannah prayed and said, ‘My heart exults in the LORD….there is no one holy like the LORD. Indeed, there is no one besides You, Nor is there any like our God.’”

Even Job, despite his sufferings could say, “I know that you can do anything and no plan of yours can be thwarted,”  Job 42:2 (CSB).

As Christians, not only do we pray our honor and gratitude to God, but our hymns praise His name and character. What joy we receive when we acknowledge His greatness!
