John 5:28, 29 (ESV), “all who are in the tombs will hear his voice and come out, those who have done good to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil to the resurrection of judgment.”
The concept of judgment includes a trial and a verdict. Mankind is not currently on trial. All are dying because Adam failed his trial. “As in Adam all die,” 1 Corinthians 15:22. In the resurrection, those who did evil (any who did not receive forgiveness through Jesus’ blood in this present life) will have their first trial.
The purpose of Christ’s 1,000 reign on earth is to bring mankind back to the perfection Adam lost. (See Acts 3:19-21.) Life on earth will be very different. There will be no temptations from Satan to sin. Revelation 20:1-3 (ESV), “an angel coming down from heaven, holding in his hand the key to the bottomless pit and a great chain. And he seized…Satan, and bound him for a thousand years, and threw him into the pit, and shut it and sealed it over him, so that he might not deceive the nations any longer, until the thousand years were ended. After that he must be released for a little while.”
In the resurrection, people’s health will be restored. Isaiah 35:5,6, “the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf unstopped; then shall the lame man leap like a deer, and the tongue of the mute sing for joy.”
Mankind’s sins will be forgiven and people will be taught righteousness. Zechariah 8:21,22, “one city shall go to another, saying, ‘Let us go at once to entreat the favor of the LORD and to seek the LORD of hosts; I myself am going.’ Many peoples and strong nations shall come to seek the LORD of hosts in Jerusalem and to entreat the favor of the LORD.” Jeremiah 31:34, “no longer shall each one teach his neighbor and each his brother, saying, ‘Know the LORD,’ for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest, declares the LORD. For I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.”
At the end of the 1,000 judgment day, restored mankind will receive their trials. Revelation 20:7,8, “when the thousand years are ended, Satan will be released from his prison and will come out to deceive the nations.” Those who do not love God and righteousness will sin again and be destroyed forever in the second death (symbolized by the lake of fire). However, we believe the majority of mankind will rejoice to live in love and justice here on earth. Then Revelation 21:4 will be fulfilled, “He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”
