“Study to show yourself approved unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” 2 Timothy 2:15 (KJV)
You are wise to proceed with caution when proclaiming the word of God. Many well-intended men and women have thought they were “called” to preach. But they did not know God’s word. They preached blasphemous doctrines against God’s loving character and divine plan.
The Apostle Paul urged Timothy to study. This study is not the study of the precepts of man. It is not human theology and philosophy. It is the diligent searching of the scriptures to find the harmony and beauty of God’s plan. Ephesians 3:17-19, “that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you… may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height–to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge.”
The true spokesman for God will be able to give a scripturally harmonious answer to questions. 1 Peter 3:15 (NIV), “Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.” A preacher should know God’s word and is able to give clear, scriptural answers, rightly dividing the word of truth.
Isaiah 52:7 (NKJV), “How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news, who proclaims peace, who brings glad tidings of good things, who proclaims salvation, who says to Zion, ‘Your God reigns!’” All Christians should preach the true gospel, the good news that in God’s time, salvation will be to and benefit all people. (Luke 2:10) It is God “who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time. Whereunto I am ordained a preacher…” 1 Timothy 2:4-7. Our ordination comes from God, not from a theology school.
Those who have His spirit and understand His message will be like the prophet Jeremiah… “his word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I grow weary of trying to hold it in; I cannot contain it…” Jeremiah 20:9.
