Why was Lot's life full of troubles? (Nigeria)

Early in Abram’s journey, Lot and Abram traveled together. Genesis 13:5-6, 11 (NIV), “Now Lot, who was moving about with Abram, also had flocks and herds and tents. But the land could not support them while they stayed together, for their possessions were so great that they were not able to stay together…So Lot chose for himself the whole plain of the Jordan and set out toward the east. The two men parted company.”

It was then that Lot began to have troubles. Sodom and Gomorrah were in that plain, and Lot chose to live in those evil cities. 2 Peter 2: 7-8 (NIV), “… Lot, a righteous man, who was distressed by the depraved conduct of the lawless (for that righteous man, living among them day after day, was tormented in his righteous soul by the lawless deeds he saw and heard)…”

When a person feels tormented, he will usually try to escape from the situation. Lot could have prayed to God and asked Him for help to move away, but he chose to remain. Doubtless, his wife, who loved that city, pressured him to stay. But, Lot still had choices.

After Lot escaped from Sodom, he and his two daughters fled to Zoar and then to a mountain cave. Genesis 19:30, 36, “And Lot went up out of Zoar, and dwelt in the mountain, and his two daughters with him; for he feared to dwell in Zoar: and he dwelt in a cave, he and his two daughters.”

Why would Lot become fearful? God had just delivered him from Sodom’s destruction. Lot’s faith should have grown. It was his fear brought on his troubles. Proverbs 29:25 (NIV), “Fear of man will prove to be a snare (or trap), but whoever trusts in the LORD is kept safe.” Because Lot was afraid, he and his daughters lived in a cave, like hermits.

Then Lot’s daughters decided to do an evil thing. Genesis 19:31-34, 36, (NIV), “The older daughter said to the younger, ‘Our father is old, and there is no man around here to give us children…Let’s get our father to drink wine and then sleep with him and preserve our family line through our father.’ That night they got their father to drink wine, and the older daughter went in and slept with him…(The next night)…the younger daughter went in and slept with him. …So both of Lot’s daughters became pregnant by their father.” This was a sin against God’s laws and man’s laws. Leviticus 18:6 (NIV), “No one is to approach any close relative to have sexual relations. I am the LORD.” This sin certainly created troubles.
