Beginning in Genesis, God selected Abraham for his faithfulness and gave him a marvelous promise. Genesis 22:17-18 (ESV), “I will surely bless you, and I will surely multiply your offspring as the stars of heaven and as the sand that is on the seashore. And your offspring shall possess the gate of his enemies, and in your offspring shall all the nations of the earth be blessed, because you have obeyed my voice.” Thus, God explained why He chose Abraham and his offspring.
Later, the LORD God made a Law Covenant with the Jewish nation. In Deuteronomy 7:6-8 (ESV), Moses explained, “For you are a people holy to the LORD your God. The LORD your God has chosen you to be a people for his treasured possession, out of all the peoples who are on the face of the earth. It was not because you were more in number than any other people that the LORD set his love on you and chose you, for you were the fewest of all peoples, but it is because the LORD loves you and is keeping the oath that he swore to your fathers…”
The Law was a special blessing to train the Jews for centuries. “Therefore the law was our tutor (or guardian)…” Galatians 3:24.
When Jesus establishes His earthly kingdom, Israel will be ready to proclaim God’s New Law Covenant to all the families of the Earth. Isaiah 2:2-4 (ESV), “…the mountain of the house of the LORD shall be established as the highest of the mountains,…and all the nations shall flow to it, and many peoples shall come, and say: ‘Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob, that he may teach us his ways and that we may walk in his paths.’ For out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.”
The Book of Roman describes the importance of Israel to the outworking of God’s plan. Romans 3:1-2, “What advantage, then, is there in being a Jew …Much in every way! First of all, the Jews have been entrusted with the very words of God (the Law and the prophets).” Romans 11:11-13, “Again I ask: Did they stumble so as to fall beyond recovery? Not at all! … I am talking to you Gentiles… For if their rejection brought reconciliation to the world, what will their acceptance be but life from the dead?”
