When Paul was on Mars Hill in Athens, he said, “And He (God) has made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth,” Acts 17:16. We are all of father Adam’s blood, and Adam was called a “son of God” in the genealogy of Luke 3:38. Thus, we can see where some might say we are God’s sons. But Adam lost his status as a son of God when he sinned.
God does love all mankind, but they are not presently His children. Spirit-begotten followers of Jesus are adopted into His family. Romans 8:15 (NKJV), “For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, ‘Abba, Father.’”
Romans 8:16 (NKJV), “The spirit itself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God.” We do not receive God’s spirit (His power and influence) until we receive Christ.
Presently, the world of mankind is not recognized as part of God’s family. But that does not mean this will forever be the case.
John 8:38, 42-44 (NKJV), “‘I speak what I have seen with My Father, and you do what you have seen with your father.’ . . . 42 Jesus said to them, ‘If God were your Father, you would love me, for I proceeded forth and came from God; nor have I come of myself, but He sent me. Why do you not understand my speech? Because you are not able to listen to my word. You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.’”
Matthew 13:38 (NKJV), “The field is the world, the good seeds are the sons of the kingdom, but the tares are the sons of the wicked one.”
1 John 3:10 (NKJV), “In this the children of God and the children of the devil are manifest: Whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is he who does not love his brother.”
Acts 13:10 (NKJV), “and said, ‘O full of all deceit and all fraud, you son of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness, will you not cease perverting the straight ways of the Lord?’”
Thus, the Scriptures teach that presently the unsaved world not sons of God.
