God chose the nation of Israel to be his special people, and dealt with them as such from the time of the death of Jacob until three and one-half years after the crucifixion of Jesus. God chose Israel to deal with as an example to the rest of the world. When they obeyed and trusted him, they did well. When they were disobedient, they suffered misfortune. Psalms 135:4
