Adam and Eve did not drop dead within the twenty-four hour period after they ate the forbidden fruit, but the dying process did begin immediately. After they were sent out of the Garden of Eden, away from the perfect conditions which sustained their perfect lives, they lived for many hundreds of years, although losing vitality all during that time.
