Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 1 John 2:15

This may seem contradictory to John 3:16,17, but the love of God spoken of there is a benevolent love, which is very proper for us to have for the world also. "Do good unto all men." The love we are not to have for this present world is the desire for its fellowship, its pursuits, and its methods, which are contrary to God and his Spirit. Matthew 6:24
