Paul is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my [Jesus'] name before the Gentiles. Acts 9:15

After Judas killed himself, the remaining apostles chose a replacement so their number would be complete. Their choice was Matthias (Acts 1:23-26), but he is never mentioned again. Paul is spoken of as having been chosen by God, and so we believe it was he who became the twelfth apostle. Each of the other apostles had also been chosen by God, not by men. Jesus spoke of his apostles as having been given him by his Father. Romans 1:1
