This one thing I do. (Philippians 3:13)
WE observe the Apostle's singleness of purpose--"This one thing I do." He did not try to do several things: if he had, he would surely have failed. He devoted his life to the one purpose to which he was called, and to that end dropped every other aim in life. He did it, too, in view of the fact that all through the present life his chosen course would bring certain loss, privation, toil, care, persecution and continual reproach. In this singleness of purpose he was relieved of many temptations to turn aside to enjoy some of the good things of this present life, or to pursue some of its illusive bubbles. Z.'95-250 R1885:3

At the name of Jesus every knee should bow. (Philippians 2:10)
WHILE we contemplate this high exaltation of the Master let us not forget that his bride is to be joint-heir with him in all of his glory, honor, and immortality, and that the privilege of becoming members of the bride class belongs to the called, chosen, faithful, the very elect of this Gospel age. If we could but have this in mind continually, what manner of persons would we be in all holy conversation and godliness--how trifling all earthly pleasures and sorrows, all riches and poverty, all weakness and debasement would seem to us! so intense would we be in our desire to make our calling and election sure to those exceeding great and precious promises. `Z'07-121` (Hymn 25)

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:9)
These things are written not to cultivate in us the thought that we may be overtaken with faults through carelessness...and then go to the Lord for forgiveness. Quite the contrary, these assurances of Divine favor and willingness to forgive are designed to have upon our hearts a mellowing influence which will make us all the more careful to avoid sin....We may keep so closely in touch with the Lord in the spirit of our minds that we may have continual fellowship with Him: and by confessing our faults and seeking His forgiveness we may continue to the end of our journey clean from sin, even though we must still acknowledge the imperfections of the flesh.
