Yes, God absolutely cares about us. This care is demonstrated not through a life free of hardship, but through a detailed, loving and just plan for all humanity that addresses sin, provides for reconciliation, and ultimately offers eternal life. His care is active and intentional, though it may not always seem apparent while we go through the difficulties of life.
Here are several ways God cares for humanity:
God’s Overarching Plan of Salvation God has a comprehensive plan for every human being who has ever lived, which is the ultimate evidence of His care. This plan was established before creation and is centered on the sacrificial death of His son, Jesus.
• A Plan for Everyone: God’s plan is not limited to a select few. He desires all people to be saved and come to a full understanding of the truth. The sacrifice of Jesus serves as the satisfaction (“propitiation”) not only for the sins of believers but also for the sins of the whole world.
• Justice and Mercy: God’s love is founded in justice. Because Adam’s one transgression brought condemnation to all, Jesus’ one act of righteousness provides the potential for justification and life for all. This demonstrates perfect equity.
• A Future of Hope: God’s plan culminates in a future earthly kingdom where He will wipe away every tear, and death, mourning, crying and pain will no longer exist. This peaceful state is the ultimate expression of His care and good will toward humanity.
Personal and Providential Care God’s care extends to the individual, especially to those who seek to follow Him. This care is not a shield from all trouble but a promise of presence, guidance and strength through it.
• He Knows Us Intimately: God is intimately acquainted with all our ways, thoughts and needs. Jesus assured his followers that they are incredibly valuable to the Father, who knows even the number of hairs on their heads.
• He Provides Strength and Comfort: God gives strength to the weary and acts as a refuge in times of trouble. He is described as the “Father of mercies and God of all comfort,” who comforts us in our afflictions. He provides a “way of escape” not from trials, but a way to endure them.
• He Cares for Our Anxiety: The sources repeatedly encourage believers to cast their anxiety upon God because He cares for them. This shows a deep, personal concern for our emotional and mental well-being.
• Jesus as an Advocate: For Christians, Jesus serves as an advocate with the Father, pleading on our behalf when we sin. This demonstrates a continuous, loving intercession for our well-being.
Discipline as an Expression of Care
For those following Jesus, the trials and discipline we experience are not signs of God’s disapproval or abandonment, but rather evidence of His fatherly love and care.
• Corrective, Not Punitive: God disciplines those He loves as a father disciplines a son, not for punishment’s sake but for their good, so they may share in His holiness.
• Produces Righteousness: While discipline is painful at the moment, it ultimately yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness for those who are trained by it. This training prepares believers for an eternal weight of glory.
The Promise of a Better Future
Ultimately, God’s care is demonstrated by the beautiful and peaceful future He has promised for all of humanity on a restored earth. After the present systems of misrule and selfishness are removed, God will establish a kingdom of true righteousness and peace. In this kingdom, every person will have the opportunity to learn God’s ways and live in harmony with Him and each other, free from the suffering that plagues our world today.
Yes, God cares deeply for us, a care demonstrated through His grand, inclusive plan of salvation, His personal guidance through life’s trials, and the promise of a future free from all suffering.
