How do I find God? The Bible is also called “the Word of God”, so the best place to begin your search for God is to begin by reading and studying the Bible. His “word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path” Psalm 119:105 The study of God’s word will strengthen your faith and lead you closer to God. “Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you…” James 4:8
Then ask God to help you find other believers who share your growing love for Him. This is an important step because we need the example, help, and encouragement of mature Christians. Hebrews 10:25, “not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.”
If you are struggling to find supportive believers, ask God for wisdom to learn where to look. “If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.” (James 1:5) God knows you need the guidance of other Christians, and He has directed the body of believers to help each other, “…But God has so composed the body, giving more abundant honor to that member which lacked,” 1 Corinthians 12:24.
The support of family is a great blessing, and it’s admirable you want your family’s help. Many times, when a person makes a life change and begins to follow God’s way, the positive changes in her behavior begin to attract the family to join her. That would be our hope and happy outcome! But even if this does not happen, you are making the best choice to follow God.
God will bring people into your life who will perhaps become closer than natural family. Matthew 12:50, “For whoever does the will of My Father who is in heaven, he is My brother and sister and mother.” The best choice anyone can make is to seek God, His will and His ways!
