Jesus is the “only begotten Son of God,” John 3:18. He is “the firstborn of all creation,” Colossians 1:15 (NASB). In the beginning in heaven, God named His son the Word. God is the Almighty Father and He is the designer and director of all creation. His Son, the Word, had the joy and privilege of carrying out God's plans.

The Word was the master workman! This is shown in John 1:3 (NIV), “Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.”  Everything was planned and determined “of” the Father and then accomplished or fulfilled “by” the Son. 1 Corinthians 8:6, “But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.”

God made the Word awesome. He was second in mightiness only to God, His Father. The Word had to be very powerful and wise in order to carry out God's designs of creation. After all, the Word created all the stars, the earth, the angels, people – everything!

But even before the earth was created, God foreknew man would sin. God had already asked the Word if He would be born as the baby Jesus. 1 Peter 1:18-20 (NIV), “you (mankind) were redeemed…with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect. He was chosen before the creation of the world…”

So, the man Jesus is our wonderful Savior. He did bring God's message of love and redemption to mankind. Therefore, Jesus may be called God’s messenger. But Jesus is much more than a mere messenger. God has exalted our Redeemer far above all others.  Philippians 2:10,11 (NIV), “at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
