Jesus is not God. Jesus is the Son of God. When the angel told Mary that she would bear Jesus, the angel explained that the child would be the Son of God. Luke 1:35 (NASB), "The angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; and for that reason the holy Child shall be called the Son of God." God was Jesus' father, not Joseph (the husband of Mary).

Additionally, the scriptures identify Jesus as a man (not part man and part God). 1 Timothy 2:5, "For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time." The way the ransom works is the man Jesus took Adam's punishment in death. It was important that Jesus be a man for only a man could be the ransom equivalent for Adam. Justice required a perfect human man (Jesus) for a perfect human man (Adam).  1 Corinthians 15:22, "For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive." This gospel or good news will "be testified in due time" – during Christ's 1,000 year reign on earth.

There is a oneness or unity of purpose between Jesus and God. Additionally, there is a unity of purpose between God, Jesus, and true Christians. Jesus prayed in John 17:20-23: "Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one: I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one."

Jesus never said he was God. In fact he said just the opposite: "…for My Father is greater than I," John 14:28. Jesus even said the words he spoke were not from Him, but from God. John 14:10, "…The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own authority…" Jesus gave all the glory to God and always honored Him.
