The cloud and pillar of fire symbolized the same thing – the presence of the God in the Israeli camp. The Lord, through these two things, took care of them, defended them and guided them during the wilderness.
“And the LORD went before them by day in a pillar of a cloud, to lead them the way; and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light; to go by day and night,” Exodus 13:21.
Responding to the question whether Christians have their own symbolic cloud, we can say that they certainly have God’s care and guidance throughout their lives. It is not as evident as it was for Israel at that time, but as the author of the Hebrews wrote about the angels: “Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?” Hebrew 1:14.
