The Bible tells us that God’s home is heaven. We have a number of verses that tell us this: “Our Father who is in heaven”(Matthew 6:9); “For God is in heaven and you are on the earth,” (Ecclesiastes 5:2); “The Lord is in His holy temple; the Lord’s throne is in heaven” (Psalm 11:4).
When Solomon built the temple in Jerusalem, he recognized that even the Earth could not contain God: “But will God indeed dwell on the earth? Behold, heaven and the highest heaven cannot contain You, how much less this house which I have built! … Listen to the supplication of Your servant and of Your people Israel, when they pray toward this place; hear in heaven Your dwelling place; hear and forgive.” (1 Kings 8:27,30).
In Psalms 115:15 we see that “The heavens are the heavens of the Lord, but the earth He has given to the sons of men.” God has allowed man dominion over the Earth at this time, but the Earth cannot contain God’s greatness – God lives in heaven.
