Scriptures show the position of a man is the head of the family.
“For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior.” Ephesians 5:23
“Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.” Ephesians 6:1
From this position as head of the family, a husband must lead his family by example just as Jesus leads us by his example. Husbands and fathers must be examples of love and increasing in the fruits of the spirit.
“Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her.”
The point of leadership in the family is not to rule over the rest of the family but to lay down our life in love and service for our family as Christ laid it down for the church and all of mankind. We are to try to always be examples of love to our wives and children.
The Bible warns us about being too strict or harsh in ruling over our family. “Husbands love your wives, do not be harsh with them.” (Colossians 3:19) and “Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.” (Ephesians 6:4)
Husbands and fathers have such a great responsibility put on them – to be examples of Jesus Christ. Their position of leadership in the family is to lead the family by example in developing a Christian character pleasing and acceptable to God.
