The Morning Star is another name given to Jesus. The title of the Morning Star appears twice, both in Revelation.
Revelation 2:28, “And I will give him (faithful Christians) the Morning Star.”
Revelation 22:16, “I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and Morning Star.”
Revelations 22:16 clearly begins with “I Jesus” explaining His identity. Verse 16 continues with Jesus calling Himself, “the root and offspring of David.” Specifically, our savior, Jesus, was to be of the tribe of Judah as well as the Root of David. “…Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has prevailed…” Revelation 5:5 (NKJV).
When Jesus was born, His ancestry was traced back to Judah and to David through Nathan. (See Luke 3:23-31.)
There is no doubt that Jesus will shine as the bright and Morning Star in the Millennial morning. It is interesting that the astronomical morning star (often referring to either the planet Venus, Mercury, or even the star Sirius) is often seen in the dark sky just before dawn. This illustrates that the brightness of Jesus’s return will be manifest just before the dawn of the millennial morning.
