They are both the same name. The name Jesus in Hebrew is ???????? (Yeshua), which is a shortened form of ?????????? (Yehoshua). The name means “Yahweh is salvation” and is closely related to the name Joshua in English. Over time, the Greek transliteration ?????? (I?sous) led to the Latin Iesus, which eventually became “Jesus” in English.
Jesus is the anglicized pronunciation of Joshua, Yehoshua, or Jehoshua. There is no “J” in Hebrew; it is a “Y.”
