Who wouldn’t want to know our wonderful God?
We all want to be understood and loved. “God is love,” 1 John 4:16. Since “He cannot deny Himself,” He is always love. Sometimes the way He expresses His love is beyond our understanding, but we know He always providentially directs our lives with loving wisdom.
He takes notice of His children’s every need. “The very hairs of your head are numbered.” He promises to be what we need in His very name. “I AM THAT I AM” is more accurately understood to mean, “I AM BECOMING WHAT I AM BECOMING.” (See the question: Why did God call Himself, ‘I AM THAT I AM’?) God reveals His glorious self to us as we need, and are able to understand and profit by that revelation.
God is just. The basic foundation of His plans is justice. “Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne; Lovingkindness and truth go before You,” Psalm 89:14 (NASB) We can trust Him to always do what is right. But sometimes we may wonder why God is not answering our prayer – right now! Why isn’t justice prevailing in this world?
Is all this pain and suffering a manifestation of God’s wisdom? Yes. God is permitting mankind to follow their own wills so they will directly experience the folly of disobeying His wise will. God has not yet established His righteous reign on earth. Satan is the usurping god of this world (2 Corinthians 4:4). When Christ reigns, people will rejoice to learn and to follow God’s arrangements. About sin, they will think – “Been there; Done that. Sin certainly doesn’t work!”
God is omnipotent. We need not worry that Satan and his fallen angels can successfully overcome God’s will. 1 Corinthians 15: 24-25 explains that Jesus (having received power from God) will establish righteousness and then turn the kingdom back to his wonderful Father. “Then comes the end, when He delivers the kingdom to God the Father, when He puts an end to all rule and all authority and power. For He must reign until He has put all His enemies under His feet.”
