Isaiah 44:24 says God, alone, made everything. Please explain.

“Thus says the LORD, your Redeemer, and the one who formed you from the womb, ‘I, the LORD, am the maker of all things, Stretching out the heavens by Myself And spreading out the earth all alone,’” Isaiah 44:24 (NASB) When studying the Bible it is important to harmonize all the scriptures relating to a specific topic. The above scripture sounds like God is saying that He created the heavens and the earth all by Himself. But let’s look at some other scriptures in the Bible.

John 1:3, “All things were made by him (the Logos); and without him was not any thing made that was made.” So in this verse, the Logos made everything. 

In the creation account of Genesis 1, the Hebrew word for God is ‘elohiym. The word is plural.   ‘elohiym is used when referring to mighty ones. Therefore, creation was not done by a singular being. Additionally, sometimes angels and men are called ‘elohiym.

How do we harmonize all three scriptures? 1 Corinthian 8:6, “there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.” We understand this verse to mean that God is the great architect and planner of creation. He did not consult with others when He made His wonderful plans. Isaiah 40:13-14, “Who has directed the Spirit of the LORD, Or as His counselor has taught Him? With whom did He take counsel, and who instructed Him, And taught Him in the path of justice? Who taught Him knowledge, And showed Him the way of understanding?”  No one.

The Logos (Jesus before he became a man) carried out His Father’s designs. He was the master builder. Proverbs 8:22-30, “The LORD possessed me at the beginning of His way, Before His works of old. I have been established from everlasting, From the beginning, before there was ever an earth…When He prepared the heavens, I was there, When He drew a circle on the face of the deep, When He established the clouds above…when He marked out the foundations of the earth, Then I was beside Him as a master craftsman.” 

Just as we identify a famous building by its architect’s name, so do we with creation. We never say this building was build by the chief foreman of construction. Jesus was God’s chief foreman. God was the architect.
