"Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For everything in the world–the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does–comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever……For everyone born of God overcomes the world. This the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world? Only he who believes that Jesus is the son of God." I John 2:15, 5:4, 5 NIV
These verses teach that even though we live in the world, we should not love the world, its things, worldly status, etc.
"I beseech you therefore, brethren through the compassions of God, to present your bodies a living, holy sacrifice, unto God acceptable, your rational divine service, and be not configuring yourselves unto this age, but be transforming yourselves by the renewing of your mind to the end ye may be proving what is the thing willed by God–the good, and acceptable and perfect." Romans 12:1. 2 Rotherham
Here, the Apostle Paul is urging us to devote our lives to God. We do so by studying, praying, meditating, developing the fruits of the spirit, and obeying God’s will in our lives. We focus on Him and not on worldly pursuits.
"For this world's wisdom is foolishness–absurdity and stupidity–with God." I Corinthians 3:19 Amplified
