1 John 4:8 and 4:16 contain the phrase “God is love”.

1 Jo 4:8  He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.

1 Jo 4:16  And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.

Psa. 31:55 Into thine hand I commit my spirit: thou hast redeemed me, O LORD God of truth.

Heb. 12:29 For our God is a consuming fire.

The phrase “pure spirit” I could not find the any of the translations I have at my disposal.

All of the other phrases are Scriptural and true because they are referring to God and different aspects of his character and being.

When the Apostle John says that God is love he means that God is the personification of Love, expressed by every aspect of his grand and glorious character. He implies that every aspect of his actions in his dealing with his intelligent creatures is based on love, and that in order to know God one must possess this same characteristic even though to a much lesser extent.

When the Psalmist describes Jehovah as the God of truth, he is assuring us that we can believe and rely upon all of God’s word to be absolute truth even though we may not be able to comprehend its application.

When the Apostle Paul states that God is a consuming fire he does not mean that God is a torment Deity. He is simply affirming the fact that God is opposed to all sin and unrighteousness, and ultimately will destroy everything that is out of harmony with his holy will. He has made a wonderful provision of grace through Christ which makes acceptable the service of those whose hearts are perfect toward him, but his law still stands that “the wages of sin is death.” (Rom. 6:23) This ‘present evil world’ is now being ‘devoured’ by the ‘fire’ of God’s ‘jealousy’ but if we keep our hearts pure, and serve him acceptably through Christ, we will have an abundant entrance into the new kingdom, even the kingdom of God.

Hope that this is helpful to your understanding of our God.
