Some say there has always been a lot going on in the world, so what makes our time unique? Is it logical to believe that the things going on today are unprecedented and were predicted thousands of years ago?

Today, we have truly unique challenges. A world population of 7,830,458,560 creates monumental problems in trying to sustain and provide basic food and shelter. Additionally, we have a climate crisis, a hunger crisis, a global pandemic, and wars – any of which are capable of destroying all human life. There is a wide scale sense of social insecurity and a general lack of confidence in our governments and in information sources around the world.

Are we in the time of the end spoken of in Daniel the 12th chapter? Daniel 12:1, “And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which stands for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.”  What evidence do we have? Clearly, the troubles of our time are the first ones that threaten the entire race. Let us start with two World Wars. 17,000,000 killed in WWI and 73,000,000 in WWII. Since these wars, mankind has spent billions developing more powerful weapons and weapons of mass destruction.

Matthew 24, known as the Lord’s great prophecy, speaks of this time. Notice, that many things had to occur before the end. The events of this chapter are a detailed history of the last 2000 years. When all of those things are fulfilled, then the end shall come. Matthew 24:21-22, “For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be and except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved”

The other indication that our day is unique is the reestablishment of Israel as a nation in 1948. Daniel 12:1 promises that at that time, thy people (the Jewish people) shall be delivered

Another sign is the explosion of technologies, inventions, and transportation. Daniel 12:4, “But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.”

When you see high speed computers, space travel, and other modern miracles, we know that the Kingdom of God is near. This is not a period of fear and dread to those who understand, but a time of unprecedented  joy. We look forward to the fulfillment of Revelation 21:4, “And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.”
