The scriptures do not actually tell us if Goliath had six fingers and six toes. We learn much later in another war the Philistines had with Israel (2 Samuel 21:15-22 and 1 Chronicles 20:4-8) that there was “a man of great stature, that had on every hand six fingers, and on every foot six toes, four and twenty in number; and he was born to the giant.” (2 Samuel 21:20) He was, most likely, the son of Goliath and not Goliath himself.
The presence of an extra finger or toe is a very common congenital malformation (one in every 500 live human births) and has nothing to do with the progeny of the “fallen angels” since they were all destroyed in the Flood (Genesis 7:21-23) many years prior to the events mentioned above.
Today extra fingers or toes can be removed surgically, if so desired. However, if the digits are properly formed, there is no reason for their removal. We found an interesting story on the Internet that we would like to share with you.
“A story was seen on Channel 12 in Richmond, Virginia about a Cuban man with 24 digits. When he was in primary school, he was asked to add 5 plus 5. His teacher told him to count on his fingers. The teacher became upset when the boy kept saying 12. The boy was confused when everyone else said 10.
“According to the boy’s fingers, he was right. He had 6 perfect fingers on both hands. In fact, he also had 6 perfect toes on both feet.
“Yoandri Hernandez Garrido's nickname is ‘Twenty-Four.’ However, he is proud of his extra digits and calls them a blessing. He is the only one in his family to be born with extra digits.”
Is there any correlation between a giant with six digits on his hands and feet and the progeny of the “fallen angels”? No, there is no correlation.
