In Genesis 14:3, 4, 7, 8, God made a covenant with Abraham: "My covenant is with thee, and thou shalt be a father of many nations…and I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee and to thy seed after thee…..This is my covenant, which ye shall keep, between me and you and thy seed after thee; Every man child among you shall be circumcised.” KJV
Even though raised as an Egyptian, Moses was, through his mother, a Jew, and should have been circumcised. God had just come to him and instructed him to perform the extremely important assignment of helping to deliver the Jewish nation out of the hands of the Egyptians. Not only did Moses try to argue with God to avoid the assignment, but he had never been circumcised, symbolizing his inclusion as a descendant of Abraham and his faith in the covenant of God. In Exodus 4:25, it took the actions of his own wife to remind Moses of who he was and what his responsibilities were.
