The old Law Covenant was made between God and Israel. Exodus 34:27-28 (ESV), “And the LORD said to Moses, ‘Write these words, for in accordance with these words I have made a covenant with you and with Israel.’ So he was there with the LORD forty days and forty nights. He neither ate bread nor drank water. And he wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant, the Ten Commandments.” The complete Law with its many ordinances is recorded throughout Exodus, Leviticus and Deuteronomy. Please note, the Law Covenant only applies to Israel.

Sadly, the Jewish people were unable to keep their covenant. But God promised to make a New Covenant with Israel and extending to all mankind. Jeremiah 31:31-34 (ESV), 31 “Behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah, 32 not like the covenant that I made with their fathers on the day when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, my covenant that they broke, though I was their husband, declares the LORD. 33 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days (after Armageddon), declares the LORD: I will put My law within them, and I will write it on their hearts. And I will be their God, and they shall be my people. 34 And no longer shall each one teach his neighbor and each his brother, saying, ‘Know the LORD,’ for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest, declares the LORD. For I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.’”

We then learn that the New Covenant will include every person as each one accepts Jesus as the Messiah and consecrates his life to serve God. Zechariah 8:21-23 (ESV), 21 “The inhabitants of one city shall go to another, saying, ‘Let us go at once to entreat the favor of the LORD and to seek the LORD of hosts; I myself am going.’ 22 Many peoples and strong nations shall come to seek the LORD of hosts in Jerusalem and to entreat the favor of the LORD. 23 Thus says the LORD of hosts: In those days ten men from the nations of every tongue shall take hold of the robe of a Jew, saying, ‘Let us go with you, for we have heard that God is with you.’”

The purpose of the New Covenant is to restore to mankind all that was lost in the Garden of Eden (Acts 3:19-26): perfect health, everlasting human life, peace, justice, a blessed communion with God, a restored Earth. This will be the fulfillment of the Lord’s prayer, “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on Earth as it is in heaven” Matthew 6:10.
