Exodus 33: 18-20 “Then Moses said, “Now show me your glory.” And the LORD said, “I will cause all my goodness to pass in front of you, and I will proclaim my name, the LORD, in your presence. I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. But,” he said, “you cannot see my face, for no one may see me and live.”
This does not say “you MAY NOT see my face” but it says “you CANNOT see my face”. This is the inability for a human to view the Divine.
If a faithful Christian were to die right now, he would receive a resurrection with a divine body. 2 Peter 1:4 (NASB), "…He has granted to us His precious and magnificent promises, so that by them you may become partakers of the divine nature…"
A resurrection to the divine nature will permit these to meet God, face to face. The Church, the body of Christ, will be like Jesus. They will be able to love and serve God as part of His precious, divine family. 1 John 3:2, "We know that when He appears, we will be like Him, because we will see Him just as He is."
Matthew 5:8 does state: “Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.” This is not speaking of a direct meeting, but means that with the proper pure heart, you will understand (see) God, Who is pure.
