The first and second chapters of the book of Genesis are wrongly divided. There are two descriptions of the work of creation. The division of the chapters should show this and be in harmony. The first account is recorded in Genesis chapter 1 through Genesis chapter 2:3, and the second account begins with Genesis 2:4.

Genesis 1:1-2:3 relates the great epochal divisions of creation. The second account is a commentary on the first and elaborates with details. Genesis 2:4,5 (NKJV) “This is the history of the heavens and the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens, before any plant of the field was in the earth and before any herb of the field had grown.”

The first and principal account uses the Hebrew word, Elohim (Mighty One), when speaking of the Creator, and the second, or commentary account points out that Jehovah God was the architect and author of creation. Genesis 2:4, “…in the day that Jehovah God made the earth and the heavens”—thus the entire work is considered as one larger epoch day, which includes the work of all six great periods.
